A recent
purchase. There is nothing nicer than the smell of these old books.
I'm sure it's addictive.
These local history books are crammed full of information written mostly from first-hand knowledge. Sydenham Henry Augustus Hervey was the Vicar of Wedmore from 1876 to 1898 and was writer to The Wedmore Chronicle.
'The Wedmore Chronicle No. 5, November 1886'.
Most of
the chronicle focus' on 'The Vicars and the Vicarage' and marriages
and deaths in the parish of Wedmore in 1885. Surprisingly the
chronicle lists all denominations in the parish and includes Wedmore
Church, Wesleyan Chapel, Wedmore Baptist Church, Crickham Baptist
Church, Blackford Chapel and Theale Chapel.
The list of Vicars of Wedmore begins early 1300s and
states why their term ended. Those 'deprived' (of work) is in regard to
the changes of religion from Christian to Catholic or vice versa.
