Somerset Genealogy has a copy (30 copies only) of  'THE EARLY CHURCH REGISTERS, (CHRISTENINGS, MARRIAGES AND BURIALS, 1558-1600) OF LONG ASHTON, SOMERSET, IN FACSIMILE".

Preface "THE EARLY CHURCH REGISTERS, (CHRISTENINGS, MARRIAGES AND BURIALS, 1558-1600) OF LONG ASHTON, SOMERSET, IN FACSIMILE"

Extract from Preface:

"These recently discovered church registers which are not recorded in the "Inventory of Parochial Documents in the Diocese of Bath and Wells and The County of Somerset" edited by J. E. King, Taunton (1938), have been lost to the scholarly world since the 18th century, and are now for the first time made available to researcher in an exact facsimile of the original.  The previously known registers commence in 1691.  The Bishops' registers cover the 17th century and the end of the 16th century, but no records appear to exist for the early period covered by this present publication, which is the only source for the births, marriages and deaths of Long Ashton fold in the third quarter of the 16th century.  The original register from which this facsimile has been made includes, amongst other important names, the burial record (May 14th 1647) of Sir Ferdinando Gorges (1566?-1647) the coloniser of New Plymouth, America, 1628, and Maine, 1639.
The whole of the original registers which cover the period 1558 to 1691 have not been reproduced in the present publication.  Only those years that are not covered by the Bishops' registers have been facsimiled and now for the first time make an accessible and unbroken record for Long Ashton of 418 years".

A quick search of the Bishops' Transcripts (above mentioned as Bishops' Registers) showed no burials in Long Ashton in 1647.  In fact the burials stop at 1639 and commence 1662.

According to online resources (Findagrave) Sir Ferdinando Gorge died 14th May 1647 in Long Ashton, Somerset and was buried in St Budiana Churchyard, St Budeaux, Plymouth Unitary Authority, Devon, England.
