Somerset Migrants and the Ill Fated 1852 Ticonderoga Voyage

On 4 August 1852 in Birkenhead 795 migrants aboard the Ticonderoga set sail for Port Philip Bay, Australia.  Amongst the 795 passengers 44 were from Somerset.  Little did they know of what lay ahead.

The Ticonderoga was soon to become a 'fever' ship and 170 passengers died on board or in quarantine.  From the 44 Somerset passengers 12 perished.

Names and information taken from the very informative My Lore website.  Well worth a visit!
