I have been doing some scouting for software to build visual maps of places where ancestors were born, married and died. The one that seemed to fit the criteria needed was Family Atlas.
I received Family Atlas today and set about trying out the software. A fictional family tree Gedcom file was imported to see what could be achieved. I am very impressed that the place markers are at the correct longitude and latitude. The software is reasonably easy to use but I found it very limited. There are little choice of fonts and the colours are very hard. I was disappointed that once you get to county level there are no towns or villages and you have a blank map. The Gazetter is very good and easily found correctly each place name that was used.
The product can be registered and updated automatically. I'm hoping it will improve over time. On the whole a nice product but very limiting.
Below is a first attempt at mapping a fictional family. Some of the features were twicked such as the Bridgwater Gene Pool logo before being added as an image.
