1789 document from Bridgwater concerning John Chubb

This is a document concerning John Chubb (1746-1818) who was Mayor of Bridgwater from 1788 to 1789 when this letter was written and is addressed to Mr Parfit, Wells.  John Chubb was well known for his lithographs of Bridgwater and his portraits of Bridgwater people.

Because of John Chubb we have a good insight into how Bridgwater looked during his lifetime but more fascinating is the portraits of local people.  He certainly did not flatter his subjects!

I have not yet begun to transcribe this document so feel free to leave comments and a little help!

The word before "hobb" and "hobb" could be the name of a person or family.

Good luck with this. If you figure it out I hope you'll post the transcription.

  2. Thank you Nancy,

I read hobb as Chubb? Will have another look. Also I read ' & John opinion' but maybe I'm reading too much into it.

    What I have is...
